Next step: Compliance Deadline Calculator
When to use this calculator
Use this calculator whenever an audit, review, or assurance engagement must be completed within a fixed window after a period end date, and you need the exact completion deadline plus fieldwork-planning reminders.
Annual financial audit
Find when an annual audit must be completed from the fiscal year end date and the statutory audit window.
Quarterly review deadline
Calculate when a quarterly review or limited assurance engagement must be finalized from the quarter close date.
Internal audit schedule
Plan an internal audit completion date from a department or process review period end date.
External auditor coordination
Confirm the completion deadline before scheduling fieldwork with an external audit firm.
Inputs
Audit period end date
The last day of the period being audited—a fiscal year end, quarter close, or specific statement date.
Audit window and unit
How long you have to complete the audit from the period end date, in days, weeks, months, or years, as required by the applicable standard or regulation.
How the calculation works
Enter the date when the audit period ends—such as a fiscal year end or quarter close—and the audit window you have to complete the audit. Days and weeks add calendar days; months and years use calendar-month math on the UTC calendar (with end-of-month clamping when needed).
Advance reminder dates are simple calendar lookbacks: 30, 60, and 90 days before the audit deadline. Use them to schedule fieldwork, gather evidence, or review draft reports before the completion date.
This tool does not model regulatory audit extensions, materiality thresholds, or jurisdiction-specific audit requirements. Confirm the actual deadline with the relevant authority or your auditor.
Worked example
Audit period end date: 31 December 2025 (fiscal year end). Audit window: 120 days.
Audit completion deadline: 30 April 2026.
Advance reminders: 31 March 2026 (30 days before), 1 March 2026 (60 days before), 30 January 2026 (90 days before).
The 90-day reminder (30 January) is a reasonable point to begin fieldwork scheduling with an external auditor; the 30-day reminder (31 March) is a reasonable checkpoint for reviewing draft findings before the completion deadline.
Edge cases
Short review windows vs long statutory audits
A limited quarterly review might use a 30- or 45-day window, while a full annual statutory audit might use 90, 120, or more days—enter the window your specific engagement or regulation actually requires rather than assuming one standard length.
Leap year fiscal year ends
A period end date of 29 February only occurs in leap years; if your audit period consistently ends on a fixed calendar date, confirm which actual date applies in non-leap years before entering it here.
Deadline on a weekend or holiday
The computed deadline is not adjusted off weekends or holidays. If a regulatory deadline extends to the next business day when it falls on a non-business day, apply that adjustment manually.
Multiple concurrent audits
Different audit types (financial, internal controls, regulatory) covering the same period can have different windows and therefore different deadlines—run the calculator once per audit type.

The Compliance & Regulatory Deadlines Guide is the primary reference for how compliance, audit, and regulatory filing deadlines are calculated, and which calculator fits each scenario.
The Compliance Deadline Calculator finds when a one-time compliance obligation is due from its trigger date—a regulation effective date, a notice of violation, or a similar event—plus 30-, 60-, and 90-day advance reminders.
The Audit Deadline Calculator finds when an audit must be completed from the end of the audited period, such as a fiscal year end or quarter close, plus the same advance-reminder pattern.
The Regulatory Filing Deadline Calculator finds when a periodic report or disclosure is due from the end of the reporting period it covers.
All three use the same trigger-date-plus-window engine as the Contract End Date, License Renewal, and Certification Renewal calculators in Contracts & Legal.

FAQ
- What is the audit period end date?
- The last day of the period being audited—commonly a fiscal year end (e.g., December 31), a quarter close (e.g., March 31), or a specific statement date.
- How is the audit deadline calculated?
- The calculator adds the audit window (in days, weeks, months, or years) to the period end date using the same calendar-date engine as the Compliance Deadline and Contract End Date calculators.
- Are the advance reminders an official deadline?
- No. The 30/60/90-day reminders are planning aids only. Statutory audit completion windows vary by jurisdiction, audit type, and regulatory body—confirm the actual deadline with your auditor or the relevant authority.
- How is this different from the Compliance Deadline Calculator?
- The Audit Deadline Calculator is for calculating when an audit must be completed from the end of the audit period. The Compliance Deadline Calculator is for obligations triggered by a regulation effective date or a notice.
- Is this an official audit standard deadline?
- No. This calculator provides planning dates only. Confirm the actual statutory or engagement-specific audit completion window with your auditor, audit committee, or the relevant regulatory body.
