Next step: Certification Renewal Calculator
When to use this calculator
Use this calculator to track when a professional, business, or regulatory license expires, and to set renewal-planning reminders well ahead of that date.
Professional license tracking
Find when a professional or trade license expires from its issue date and validity period.
Business license renewal
Plan renewal filing ahead of a business license's expiry date.
Permit tracking
Track the expiry date of a regulatory permit issued for a fixed validity period.
Certification pairing
Use the Certification Renewal Calculator for credentials that require a renewal exam or continuing education by a deadline.
Inputs
Issue date
The date the license was issued or last renewed.
Validity period and unit
How long the license remains valid from the issue date, in days, weeks, months, or years.
How the calculation works
Enter the license issue date and how long it's valid for. Days and weeks add calendar days; months and years use calendar-month math on the UTC calendar (with end-of-month clamping when needed)—the same engine behind the Contract End Date and Contract Expiry calculators.
Renewal reminder dates are simple calendar lookbacks: 30, 60, and 90 days before the expiry date. Use them for renewal planning—not as a legal or regulatory renewal deadline unless your licensing authority confirms that lead time.
This tool does not model grace periods, late-renewal penalties, or jurisdiction-specific renewal windows.
Worked example
Issue date: 10 January 2025. Validity period: 2 years.
Expiry date: 10 January 2027.
Reminder dates: 11 December 2026 (30 days before), 11 November 2026 (60 days before), 12 October 2026 (90 days before).
If the licensing authority requires renewal applications 90 days in advance, the 90-day reminder above marks the earliest date to begin that paperwork.
Edge cases
Multi-year validity periods
Longer validity periods (2, 3, or 5 years) are common for professional and business licenses—enter the full period in years rather than converting to months for the most accurate calendar-month math.
Issue date at month-end
A license issued 31 August with a one-year validity period expires 31 August the following year (no clamping needed, since August has 31 days in both years); a two-year term from 29 February in a leap year clamps to 28 February in the non-leap expiry year.
Renewal reminders vs actual filing windows
The 30/60/90-day reminders are fixed calendar lookbacks. Some licensing authorities open renewal windows on a different schedule (for example, only in the final 60 days)—confirm the actual window with the issuing authority.
Grace periods after expiry
This calculator computes only the stated expiry date. It does not model a grace period some authorities allow after expiry before a license lapses or penalties apply.

FAQ
- How do I find when my license expires?
- Enter the issue date and the validity period (days, weeks, months, or years). The calculator adds that period forward and shows the expiry date plus 30/60/90-day renewal reminders.
- How is this different from the Contract Expiry Calculator?
- Same underlying date math—no new calculation—framed for license issue dates and validity periods instead of contract start dates and terms.
- Are the renewal reminders a legal deadline?
- No. The 30/60/90-day reminders are for planning only. Renewal lead times, grace periods, and late fees vary by license type and issuing authority—confirm the actual requirement with that authority.
- What about certifications instead of licenses?
- Use the Certification Renewal Calculator—it applies the same date math, framed for professional certifications and credentials issued by a certifying body rather than a government or regulatory authority.
