Next step: Contract End Date Calculator
When to use this calculator
Use this calculator whenever a contract, license, subscription, or lease uses "expiry date" language for its term end, and you know the start date and term length.
License or subscription expiry
Find the exact expiry date of a software license or subscription from its activation date and term.
Lease expiry
Confirm when a fixed-term lease expires from its start date and length.
Warranty expiry
Check the exact date a product or service warranty term ends from its activation date.
Renewal deadline planning
Pair with the Contract Renewal Calculator to find the deadline to act before this expiry date.
Inputs
Start date
The date the term begins—activation date, contract signing date, or lease start date.
Duration and unit
The term length, in days, weeks, months, or years, as stated in the agreement.
How the calculation works
Enter the contract start date and term length. Days and weeks add calendar days; months and years use calendar-month math on the UTC calendar (with end-of-month clamping when needed, for example January 31 plus one month becomes February 28 or 29)—the same engine behind the Contract End Date Calculator.
The expiry date is the term length added forward from the start date. This calculator does not model auto-renewal, notice periods, or business-day adjustments—use the Contract Renewal Calculator if your agreement requires advance notice before it expires or auto-renews.
Worked example
Start date: 1 March 2025. Duration: 18 months.
Expiry date: 1 September 2026 (18 calendar months added, no clamping needed since the 1st exists in every month).
For a shorter 6-month term from the same start date, the expiry date would be 1 September 2025 instead.
Edge cases
Month-end start dates
A term starting 31 October with a three-month duration expires 31 January (January has 31 days); the same three-month term from 31 August expires 30 November (November has only 30 days—end-of-month clamping applies).
Very short or very long terms
Day- and week-based terms suit short trials or promotional periods; year-based terms suit standard licenses and leases. Both use the same underlying date math, just a different unit.
Expiry date on a weekend or holiday
The computed expiry date is not adjusted off weekends or holidays. If your agreement extends a weekend expiry to the next business day, apply that adjustment manually.

FAQ
- How do I find when a contract expires?
- Enter the contract start date, the term length, and the unit (days, weeks, months, or years). The calculator adds that term forward from the start date and shows the exact expiry date.
- How is this different from the Contract End Date Calculator?
- Same underlying date math, presented for the "expiry date" framing some contracts, licenses, and subscriptions use instead of "end date." The Contract End Date Calculator also shows 30/60/90-day renewal reminder dates.
- Does this account for auto-renewal?
- No. This calculator only computes the expiry date from a fixed term. If your contract auto-renews unless you give notice, use the Contract Renewal Calculator to find that notice deadline.
- Can I use this for a license or certification instead of a contract?
- The date math is the same, but the License Renewal Calculator and Certification Renewal Calculator are framed specifically for issue dates and validity periods, and also show 30/60/90-day renewal reminders.
